Man United transfer news LIVE with Jadon Sancho updates (2024)

As Sunday's clash with Tottenham in the Premier League edges closer and closer, Manchester United continue to monitor deals across January, with the onus on improving the squad during the second half of the season.

Erik ten Hag hasn't ruled out the possibility of bringing in players on loan this month, with a striker to help out Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial looking like.

Karim Benzema, Eric Choupo-Moting and Serhou Guirassy have all been touted as potential options, with Amad Diallo yet to return to full fitness following the setback he sustained in pre-season.

In terms of outgoings, it appears almost likely that Jadon Sancho will spend the rest of the season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, following the isolated nature of his treatment at Old Trafford. The England international has now not played for the club in over five months and it remains to be seen where his imminent future lies.

Sancho arrived in Germany yesterday evening and is expected to complete a medical and fulfil all of his media duties sometime on Thursday, as we await the German club's announcement.

Furthermore, Joe Hugill and Hannibal are just two players who look like to head out on loan, as Ten Hag continues to monitor the ongoing situation that has seen many of his first-team players ruled out through injury this season.

Inter Milan 'considering' Anthony Martial transfer

Inter Milan are considering a swoop for Anthony Martial next summer.

That's according to fresh reports from Italian publication Calciomercato.

United are open to cashing-in on the Frenchman this month.

However, the most likely scenario at this stage is that he departs Old Trafford as a free agent next summer. Inter are thought to be monitoring his situation with a view to replacing United flop Alexis Sanchez with 30-cap France international Martial in time for the 2024/2025 season.

ANALYSIS - United are finally preparing to play their best XI

The strongest United team Ten Hag has picked all season came in pre-season and lasted 74 seconds.

Mainoo was the collateral damage in a Casemiro challenge on Real Madrid forward Rodrygo in Houston on July 26 and he did not appear again for the first team for exactly four months.

Mainoo's ankle injury is a curious sliding doors moment. The 18-year-old was accommodated in the same XI as Casemiro, Mount and Fernandes against the Madrid of Bellingham, Modric, Camavinga and Tchouameni.

Let us know your thoughts on the January transfer window

The January window is in full steam now and the Reds' supporters will be hoping their side can make some deals over the course of this month.

In my opinion, United need to be focusing on bringing a striker to the club considering their awful record in front of goal and to allow pressure to be taken away from Hojlund.

But it doesn't matter what I think necessarily, let us know your thoughts in our poll below:

Jonathan David's goalscoring stats so far this season

When you compare David's stats this season to that of United's front line, it is night and day the comparison.

The 23-year-old has hit a purple patch in recent weeks bagging three goals in the past five Ligue 1 appearances.

However, the question will be whether the forward can keep this up should he move to the Premier League in January.

Jonathan David has already hinted at transfer desire

United's No.1 position to strengthen this winter is up front.

The Reds' lack of goals has been deeply concerning and it is unsurprising to see their name linked with another striker this window in the form of Jonathan David.

Fortunately for United, the Lille man has his heart set on a move to the Premier League.

New striker on radar

Manchester United have reportedly started "internal talks" about signing Lille and Canada striker Jonathan David.

United are understood to be in the market for another centre-forward this window to ease the burden on Rasmus Hojlund.

David has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time. According to 90min, the striker is on United's radar.

ANALYSIS - United and Sancho will learn nothing from loan

It was inevitable that Sancho would leave United in the January window.

The winger is out of favour after the September saga and the relationship between himself and the club is at an all-time low.

But, a loan switch at this stage will provide little use to United or Sancho.

Hello all

Afternoon everyone,

Jack here to take on the blog for the next few hours on what has been a busy day for the Reds.

The main news, as we all know by now, is that Sancho has left the club to rejoin Dortmund for the remainder of the season.

We will be bringing you all the latest reaction to that as we head into the evening.

Details of Sancho's exit

Manchester United will receive a guaranteed £3million from Borussia Dortmund after the deal to take Jadon Sancho back to his former club on loan was completed.

United will recoup most of Sancho's salary as part of the deal, which will see Dortmund pay an initial fee of €3.5m for a loan deal that runs until June 30, 2024. There is no option to buy included in the agreement.

Potential add-ons included in the deal thrashed out between the two clubs make up an extra €4m, but for the full amount to be reached Sancho would have to play in all of Dortmund's games and the club would need to progress all the way in this season's Champions League and qualify for the competition next term.

While that is unlikely, United see any potential fee beyond the €3.5m as a bonus, having managed to get the majority of Sancho's wages off the books for the rest of this season in a deal that also provides the 23-year-old with the chance to return to top-level football.

Sancho breaks silence

Jadon Sancho has expressed his delight at re-signing for Borussia Dortmund - admitting a return to the Bundesliga club felt like "coming home".

After completing a temporary move back to Dortmund, the 23-year-old, who starred in 137 appearances with the club during his first spell, has voiced his delight at returning to the North Rhine-Westphalia and admitted he can't wait to play football "with a smile on my face".

“When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like 'coming home'. I know the club inside and out, I've always been very close with the fans here, and I've never lost contact with those in charge," Sancho told Borussia Dortmund's official website.

“I can’t wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League."

Triple transfer message sent

Dwight Yorke has urged Manchester United to sign three players to take them back to the top of English football.

Speaking to Footy Accumulators, he said: "If I were in charge of Man United and had to sign three players, then I'd pick Victor Osimhen, Leroy Sane, and Son Heung-Min.

"I feel United are OK defensively, but they lack options in midfield. I wouldn't say the club needs a clearout, but they need at least six new players to freshen up the whole team. Too many players have been there for too long!

"I think Leroy Sane would give United plenty of options on the right and he'd complement Rashford well. Victor Osimhen would inject firepower and goals, and he'd complete my ideal front three.

"Midfield options are needed, but I'm struggling to think of any stand-out names. I feel like Man United have lost their identity in this department over the last 18 months, and I worry about how fragile they look there. I find myself second-guessing the team before each game!"

Anthony Martial has "never" been an option for French side Marseille, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The French striker is facing a period of uncertainty at Old Trafford after entering the final six months of his contract. It's unclear whether he will be penning an extension at the club.

However, according to Romano, Marseille have claimed that negotiations never took place with the striker.

Anthony Martial has never been discussed as an option for Olympique Marseille. Club didn't reject anything as negotiations never took place.

The situation around Martial remains quiet so far.

Ferguson's direct Benzema tactic

If United decide to make a move for a striker this month, they could cast their eye toward Saudi Arabia with players reportedly keen to leave the country after the mega-money spending spree by its teams in the summer.

Karim Benzema has been linked with a move to Old Trafford with the Real Madrid legend reportdly keen to explore an exit from Saudi despite only moving to Al-Ittihad at the end of last season.

Now, Rio Ferdinand has revealed how Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign Benzema for the Red Devils.

The first time I played against him, Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to sign him. He was speaking to him in the tunnel after the game and Lyon officials had to pull him away. His movement that day was brilliant.
